Actually excited near the new GIMP!
I cannot seem to become the new Drop Shadow (Filters > Light and Shadow > Drop Shadow...) to piece of work.
Legacy works fine but Drib Shadow (GEGL) produces cipher. What am I doing wrong?

Unfortunately, your screenshot does non give enough data. You need something similar this
edit: OK, had to wget your gif animation. No expert using a selection, the GEGL dropshadow works on a transparent layer.
At that place have been a couple of posts about the GEGL drib shadow recently

Hi Rich2005,
I noticed I had to add a transparancy layer otherwise the menuitem is disabled.
In the screencast a transparancy layer is present. Even so, how exercise I become it to draw?
The other case is unclear to me (btw. I run Win10, non Ubuntu)
(excuse my ignorance, I would not bother this forum simply I estimate the legacy Drop Shadow will be obsolete and removed in a futurity release)

Not articulate from your blitheness since the layers dialogue is not shown.
Yous need to create your drawing on a transparent layer, not a solid (white) layer. The trouble is yous are making a option. Attempt the GEGL filter without a selection.
In this case, there is no difference between Windows and linux
There is no indication that the legacy drop shadow will go. Keep using it as long equally it is in that location. The reward of the GEGL filter is you run into exactly what the drop shadow looks similar earlier information technology is applied.
Thanks, Il'l proceed using the legacy one.
I guess new tutorials will eventually appear on youtube, explaining exactly how to use this.
